Q: What's the best way to camouflage acne?

Believe me, the only thing worse than having acne is not being able to cover it up. Luckily, there are a few simple things you can do to improve your skin’s condition, as well as some easy makeup tricks that will help to conceal any imperfections.

After cleansing your face, treat problem areas with an acne medication. As far as over-the-counter products go, Peter Thomas Roth has a great line that aggressively targets acne. Next, apply a light moisturizer. Many people with oily or acne-prone skin avoid face creams because they believe it will worsen their skin’s condition, but that’s just a myth. Our bodies produce oil to protect the skin from the elements, and once the skin is cleansed and treated, it’s bare and unprotected. If a light moisturizer is not used, the body will relubricate the skin by producing extra, unwanted oils.

Once your face is clean and moisturized, use a small brush or finger to dab a tiny bit of yellow-based concealer on your problem spots, blend, and apply a light foundation. Follow with a light dusting of a yellow-based loose powder. Using yellow-based products will help to tone down the red while keeping your complexion looking natural—not like you’re trying to cover acne. I would recommend Benefit Cosmetics’ You're Bluffing, an industrial strength concealer, and Bluff Dust, a yellow-based powder.

With your skin looking this good, all you’ll need to knock ’em dead is a big smile!
